Mercedes-Benz India will launch the A-Class sedan on March 25, as reported earlier. Along with the launch of the regular A 200 and A 200 d petrol and diesel variants, respectively, the company will inaugurate the Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan.
The AMG A35 puts itself apart from the regular variants of sportier bumpers, alloys and lower profile tyres. The colour palette will be a bit more vibrant and include the stunning shade of yellow seen here. The cabin gets a darker treatment in general, and there are plenty of AMG specific bits, including the steering wheel and seats.
Powering the Mercedes-AMG A35 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 306bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm. As the full model designation – Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC – indicates, it comes with an all-wheel-drive setup. A 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox handles transmission duties. The AMG A35 can sprint from 0-100kmph in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250kmph (limited). The steering setup, brakes, suspension, et al. have been tinkered with by AMG to deliver a sportier, more engaging driving experience than the regular A-Class. Models available in other markets are offered with an optional adaptive suspension that lets drivers switch between three settings.
Following the commencement of local assembly of Mercedes-AMG products starting with the GLC 43 Coupe last year, the list will be expanded to include the AMG A35. That should help enable Mercedes-Benz to sell the A35 at a very competitive price. As per our estimates, the Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan price in India could be around Rs 50 to 55 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable AMG on sale in India.
