PM Modi on Sunday introduced a financing facility worth 1 lakh crore under the agriculture infrastructure fund which aims to provide medium – long term debt financing facility for investment in viable projects for post-harvest management Infrastructure and community farming assets.

Rs 17,000 crore was transferred directly to an estimated 8.5 crore farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme which has been in force since 2018.

The PM Kisan Fund is a Central Sector scheme with 100% funding from the Government of India. The scheme has been claimed to be beneficial to the farmers amid a pandemic crisis. It was launched virtually by PM Modi on a video conference with Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and other officials were also present.

Formulated to help farmers, the fund will make a way for new harvest management infrastructure and community farming assets such as cold storage, collection centres and processing units which will be useful in several ways.

These assets will enable farmers to get greater value for their produce, as they will be able to store and sell at higher prices, reduce wastage, and increase processing and value addition. Rs. 1 Lakh Crore will be sanctioned under the financing facility in partnership with multiple lending institutions. Overall it will play a vital role in reforming the agriculture sector.
