Ronaldo Scores 100th International Goal for Portugal

RONALDO SCORES 100TH INTERNATIONAL GOAL FOR PORTUGAL

Cristiano Ronaldo became the 2nd male footballer to score a century of international goals after he drilled 2 goals against Sweden in the UEFA Nations League group stage game, taking his international goals tally to 101.

The first goal came at just before half time when Sweden’s Svensson, who was already on a yellow card, gave away a freekick and was shown a red card after lunging into a late challenge on Moutinho. Ronaldo entered into the 100 goals club with a dazzling freekick from 25 yards

away, into the top left corner. The second goal also came from outside the box when Joao Felix passed the ball to Ronaldo at the edge of the box who curled it past Robin Olsen, the Swedish Goalkeeper.

Ageing like a fine wine, the 35 year old still has that same hunger for goals like he used to have when he was 25. It is clear that Ronaldo has come a long way since his first international goal on 12TH June in a 2-1 loss against eventual champions Greece, in Euro 2004.

The 5 time Ballon d’Or winner now needs to score 9 more goals for Portugal to surpass Ali Daei (Iran), who has 109 international goals under his name. The Portuguese talisman is still strong as ever and it will be a surprise if he doesn’t become the highest goals scorer at the international stage.

The Portugal captain said afterwards, “What I have done in my career speaks for itself. I have to prove nothing to anyone, and when I have to prove it, I show it on the pitch.

I am very happy. Firstly, because the team won, which was the goal we had. Then the 100 mark and then the 101, with two goals, makes me very happy. Now the future is only for God. I feel good, I feel good for playing with these young players.”
