The Court Granted Bail to the two Accused of Delhi Riots

New Delhi: The court granted bail to the two accused, expressing doubt over the testimony of two policemen in the Delhi riot case.  These accused were arrested by the Delhi Police for sabotage and other incidents during the riots in Gokulpuri area.  These accused were identified by these policemen after about two months.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Yadav of Karkardooma district court granted bail to accused Mohammad Shoaib and Shah Rukh on personal bonds of Rs 20,000 each and surety sureties of this amount.  While granting bail, the court noted that the prosecution petition was opposed on the basis of the statements and identity of Havil Babu and the constable Vipin on 7 April 2020.

The court questioned the testimony of the policemen, saying that their testimony does not matter.  Of course he was a beat officer in that area and saw the accused rioting on 25 February 2020.  Even after this, he took time till April to identify the accused and make a statement.

The court raised the question, what was it that, despite being a policeman, was preventing him from informing the police station and senior officers about the matter.  This casts deep doubt on the testimony of both policemen.  Apart from this, the CCTV footage given by the police is dated 24 February while the case is allegedly from the next day.  The court finally stated that the two accused were arrested from Mandoli jail on 15 April 2020, not 55 days after the incident.  – Agency
