According to data released on Monday, the number of mobile users on 5G networks in South Korea surpassed 15 million last month, as telecom providers compete for additional consumers on the newest generation networks.
According to data from the Ministry of Science and ICT, 5G subscriptions totaled 15.15 million at the end of April, accounting for 21.25 percent of the country’s total 71.27 million mobile subscribers.
The population of South Korea is 52 million people. In comparison to the beginning of the year, the newest data shows a decrease in 5G user growth. According to the Yonhap news agency, the country added roughly 671,000 5G subscriptions in March, after acquiring over 1 million 5G users in January.
Since the debut of Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series in January, major smartphone manufacturers have yet to produce flagship products in the local market. SK Telecom had the most 5G subscribers last month, with 7.07 million, followed by KT Corp. with 4.6 million and LG Uplus with 3.47 million.
